Welcome to the UCD Wrestling Blog and Website

The UCD Gladiators Freestyle Wrestling Club was set up in 2002 in University College Dublin. We are the first University Amateur Wrestling Club in Ireland.

We train twice a week, Fridays from 5-7pm and Saturdays from 1-3pm in Hall C in the Sports Centre, UCD Campus.

We train in Freestyle wrestling which is used in the Olympics. The emphasis in Freestyle is on attack and exposure. Matches are won either by pinning an opponent’s shoulders to the mat for a split second or by accumulating the greater number of points during the match.

Amateur wrestling is unexcelled as a means of acquiring physical efficiency, coordination, poise, and effective use of the body. Wrestling helps to develop four important assets that are paramount to success in sport: individual initiative, mental alertness, body control under difficult conditions and courage to carry on.

The UCD Wrestling Club is affiliated with the Irish Amateur Wrestling Association and our aim is to promote and develop the sport in Dublin and throughout Ireland.
